Life Time Achievements

Prof. M. Rais Alvi remains one of the highest accredited, acknowledged and academic literary in the country. Over the years of his long and glorious service, he has served at some of the highest positions in academia. He has also been honored with various prestigious achievements / awards.

Today, Prof. M. Rais Alvi represents an epitome of light for hundreds and thousands of students, and alumni serving at various positions.

URDU ADAB AWARD, 2007, HINDU URDU SAHITHYA Award Committee, U.P [India]

After the great modern Urdu Poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Prof. M. Rais Alvi is the second Pakistani recipient honored with Urdu Adab Award, in recognition of his services for development of Urdu Language and literature.

MEMBER DELEGATION TO EUROPEAN COMMISSION (2002)

Prof. M. Rais Alvi was the member of the delegation of Govt. of Pakistan for Europe, including Belgium, Holland and United Kingdom. It covered European Commission Procurement Regulations in Brussels, EC Project cycle Management, Training by MDF the Netherlands, Decentralization with a member of Dutch Parliament, British Council Head Office briefing on DFID Policy and British Council Operations.

Honorary title of Doctor by University of Pittsburgh, USA (2001)

Prof. M. Rais Alvi is the only Pakistani to receive an honorary title of Doctor by the Institute of International studies in Education, University of Pittsburgh, USA. The title was bestowed at the closing of the fellowship in 2001.
The Silver Palm (2012)

In recognition of his unwavering services and commitment towards scouting, Prof. M.Rais Alvi was awarded The Silver Palm by President of Pakistan. It is the second highest scouting award.

International Patron

In recognition of his services towards the development of language and academia, Prof. M. Rais Alvi has been recognized as the International Patron by Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of Auckland.

FUKUAKA Literature and Cultural Award Nomination (2010):

Prof. Rais Alvi was nominated for the prestigious International FUKUOKA LITERATURE AND Prof. M. Rais Alvi was nominated for the prestigious International FUKUOKA LITERATURE AND CULTURAL AWARD 2010, JAPAN by H.E.C Pakistan.

 

  • BOOKS & PUBLICATIONS:

Prof. M. Rais Alvi shared the joint Authorship of four books with the eminent Urdu/Japanese scholar Professor Suzuki Takeshi, former Chairman, Department of Urdu, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. Professor Suzuki Takeshi was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his services to Urdu language / literature and promoting Pakistan Japan friendship, on 23rd March 1996 by the government of Pakistan.

Urdu – Japanese Daily Conversation:

This book is a comprehensive guide for Japanese students / tourists to learn Urdu language for daily conversation. (Covered Various Places & several aspects of Pakistan & Pakistani Cultures) joint work with Prof. Suzuki Takeshi of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Published by Daigaku Shorin, Tokyo, 1986.

Ghazal e No Izanai (Ghazal Nama):

A Book in Japanese Language on Symbolism and vitality in Urdu Ghazal including the life and work of ten Major Urdu Poets (Lectures on Urdu Ghazal). Translated and Compiled by Ms. Reiko Umemoto; printed in Tokyo, Japan, 2005.

Okuno Hoso Michi/Undroon-e-Shimal ka Tung Raasta:

Urdu Translation of the famous travelogue (Okuno hoso michi/Undroon-e-Shimal ka Tung Raasta) of the great Japanese poet MATSUO BASHO {1644-1694} printed in May 2014. It is considered one of the major texts of classical Japanese literature. It is the first translation in any South Asian language.

Articles & Papers:

Lectures Delivered at various Universities and conferences organized by national & international associations & organizations. A number of Articles/Papers have been printed in various News Papers/Magazine on Literature and Education, in National/International Publications, Particularly on Urdu and Japanese Literature.

Books Under Print:

Three books on Urdu literature and Japanese poetry have been compiled to be published.

 

    • ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW DEPARTMENTS/INSTITUTIONS:
    • First Convener University Inspection and Evaluation Committee, Constituted by Government of Sindh to monitor and check Physical facilities and expertise, before awarding charter to Universities/Degree awarding institutes in Sindh 1999-2002.
    • Made operative more than 25 Government Colleges and a number of Schools in Karachi, while working as Executive District Officer (EDO) City District Govt. Karachi.
    • Worked as a member of the committee appointed by the syndicate University of Karachi for the establishment of a Department of Education at the campus, 1977.
